Cascade Mountains Travel Region
Crystal Mountain, Washington

Crystal Mountain is nestled in the Cascade Mountains of Washington some 45 miles southeast of the city of Enumclaw. A small community that caters to seasonal skiers, it is home to one of Washington’s premier ski resorts. Its proximity to the Puget Sound area makes it an easy winter destination for skiers from the Tacoma, Seattle and Portland areas.

Sandwiched between two national forests and surrounded by thousands of acres of pristine forestland, Crystal Mountain is also a preferred vacation getaway for weekend and holiday travelers. With a ski resort that encompasses more than 25,000 acres of ski trails, upgraded lifts and grooming facilities, the area attracts as many as 400,000 skiers and snowboarders a year.

Nordic skiing is available to experienced backcountry skiers on the outskirts of Crystal Mountain. This is real backcountry, so adventurous skiers should come prepared. Groomed cross-country trails also can be found at nearby Mount Rainier National Park in the Longmire area.

Crystal Mountain’s backcountry is also well known to summer hikers – and in fact, is only accessible by foot. Crystal Mountain’s North and South backcountry areas are undeveloped, choice areas for hiking and experiencing Washington’s spectacular scenery.

Mountain biking tests the limits on several of the mountain’s trails, such as the Crystal Mountain Loop. Breathtaking views of volcanoes and the horizons of a 7,000-foot-high vista make this trail’s murderous climb well worth the effort. Similar tracks like the Northway trail prove why Crystal Mountain is known not only for its skiing, but for its many summer activities, as well.

The area has a broad selection of accommodations, ranging from well-appointed hotels and suites on the mountain, to lodges and cabins nearby. Restaurants include several slope side restaurants, and a multi-ethnic array of dining establishments in and around the area.
