West Yellowstone, Montana – The Yellowstone Ski Festival is back, heralding the beginning of the holiday season. The festival also marks the start of the Nordic ski season in the West Yellowstone area, with a host of races, ski clinics and hard-to-resist equipment sales. The festival runs Nov. 25-29, 2008.

Shore Acres State Park, in Charleston, Oregon is home to one of the Northwest’s largest and most spectacular holiday light shows. Life-size whales, sea lions, butterflies and of course, South Coast Oregon’s mascot, the Tufted Puffin are all part of the night scenery during the holiday season. Seattle Center, in Seattle, Washington kicks off its 21st annual Winterfest  November 28 with a parade, and later that evening, the celebratory tree lighting ceremony. This year’s festival has a host of free and low-cost events and activities to accommodate every budget. Ice skating, free holiday treats, concerts and children’s activities continue to December 31, with some special activities continuing to January 4.

Vancouver, British Columbia has events for just about every interest and pocket book this season as well. Events include the popular Bright Nights holiday lights festival, which starts November 28 and runs through New Year’s Day, the Carol Ships Parade of Lights December 1 through 23, and the 12th annual Seasonal Celebration in Burnaby’s breathtakingly beautiful Deerlake Park, on December 6. Oh, and for those hardy souls who enjoy a good early morning dip, there’s Vancouver’s English Bay Polar Bay Swim on January 1, now in its 89th year.
